St. Matthew’s church is All Saints’, Ockham. Our Rector is Reverend Hugh Grear. Our school chaplain is Revd. Elisabeth Burke, who with the other clergy, leads assembly once a week as well as a termly Sunday family service in school which all families are invited to join.

The children, parents and staff celebrate Christmas and Easter with special services at All Saints’ and the children take part in finding out about the church and its history in an annual whole school visit.

The school also enjoys visiting St. Michael’s tiny chapel in Downside.

All Saints’ welcomes all our families at every congregational service. On the first – third Sundays a communion service takes place at 10.30am with the children attending “Pebbles” Sunday School. The fourth Sunday of every month is the Family Service. Please see the latest copy of The Parishoner for all the church news this month.

Special services of note this term are:

All Saints’ Carol Service by Candlelight – Sunday 17th December 4.30pm.

Crib Service – Christmas Eve – 4pm St Michaels Chapel, Downside.

Previous Special Services St Matthews Children have taken part in:

Remembrance Day 2017

Some of the children joined Mrs Hutt and Mr Wilkins, the Chair of Governors to take part in the Remembrance Sunday service in Ockham and lay wreaths on behalf of the school.

Education Sunday – 24th September 2017

Rev Hugh and Rev Elisabeth led a wonderful service where we gave thanks for our Patron Saint, St Matthew and all the work that we do here at school. The children helped lead parts of  the service with their acting of biblical stories, reading of prayers and readings. We also sang a song and taught it to the whole congregation who joined in for the second time!

Christmas Eve Crib Service – Downside Chapel 2016

So many of our children, past and current (and future), crammed into the chapel on Christmas Eve to join Rev. Elisabeth to tell the Christmas story.

All Saints Carol Service 2016

It was wonderful to see so many St Matthews children attending the family carol service, with many of the children dressed up in nativity outfits to help tell the Christmas story.

Mr Wilkins, the Chair of Governors, represented the school by reading one of the lessons during the service.

Remembrance Day 2016

Some of the children attended the Remembrance Day service and laid a wreath on behalf of all the children. The wreath was made from poppies that the children in Badger class had made, along with some very beautiful poems
