Newsletter 10th May 2013
Dear Parents,
Swimming is a big success and going extremely well after the excitement of the first week. The children are really enjoying their lessons. If you are able to help out on a Friday please fill in the timetable in the entrance area.
The Walking Bus has been a very exciting project for us, and has resulted in the building of our new beautiful path along the common. We now feel, and this is supported by many comments and much feedback from parents, that the walking bus has served its purpose and that actually the path itself now provides the safe route across the common for the children. The walking bus will therefore cease as of today and will not be in place thereafter. This is not in any way a negative move, and we should celebrate what the walking bus helped to achieve. Thank you to all for supporting the walking bus and signing up to help out. The really important point going forward is that all parents must please park in The Cricketers and walk along the path to school. Please ensure that this happens and that the path is busy and being used. Thank you.
There is much happening at school this term. We try not to add dates and events unless absolutely necessary but opportunities do come up as we move through the year. The following events are new dates for your diary and were not in the original dates list:
May 22nd Pizza Express Trip Rabbits Class. No Cost.
June 24th Childnet workshops for all children and parents (Please see letter in todays book bags and on home contact). No Cost to parents
July 15th - Whole school trip to Chessington World of Adventures (Please see letter in book bags today and on home contact). No cost to parents
The popularity of Cricket Club and Maypole Dancing Club has been overwhelming. Thank you for your support. We will continue the lunchtime sports club into the Autumn too, but it may have a hockey focus in the Autumn Term, netball/tennis in Spring, reverting to cricket in the Summer Term. I hope to be able to offer the lunchtime sports club or clubs free as of September. Watch this space!
Please come along to the Boot Camp workout tomorrow morning on the common. It starts at 10am and all funds go to St Matthews. Also, Friday July 5th is the St Matthews Summer Ball at the Rugby Club in Cobham. Tickets will be £35.00 per person. This is a big fundraiser for St Matthews so please buy your tickets and come along more details will be sent out soon. Lots of staff will be there with partners/hubbies, including myself, Mrs Hutt and Mr and Mrs Rowlands back from Puttenham for the evening!
Yours sincerely,
Rhian Thornton
